"The heart has its reasons of which reason knows nothing"
- Blaise Pascal
Blaise Pascal was a seventeenth-century French mathematician and physicist. Reflecting his many scientific contributions, the name pascal has since been given to a unit of pressure and a computer programming language, as well as to many mathematical concepts.
Following a near-death experience in 1654, Pascal abandoned the intellectual pursuits of mathematics and physics for the heartfelt study of philosophy and theology.
We dedicate this music to his inspiration, perhaps more appropriate at the beginning or the twenty-first century than it has ever been.
